Predators' Reboot Fast-Tracked to 2010

Predators", the planned reboot to the "Predator" series, will be coming out in 2010. Soon after director Robert Rodriguez confirmed rumors about the project at a news conference on Thursday, April 23, ERC Box Office broke the news that the 20th Century Fox planned to release this project on July 7, 2010.

In a press release as reported by ERC, Fox promise that "Predators" will be "a bold new chapter in the Predator universe". Serving as the producer of the project is Rodriguez, who has been confirmed to merely "shepherding" the film and won't be taking on the writing and directing. So far, no writer or director has been hired.

Earlier during a press conference at Troublemarker Studios, Robert Rodriguez revealed that 20th Century Fox were developing a Predator reboot titled "Predators". "I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons," so he claimed at the time.

An older Mel Gibson as a father set on avenging the death of his daughter?

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia! was a rather delightful comedy/drama. Of coarse people that do not enjoy ABBA will disagree but it really all depends on your taste in music. The movie is about Sophie, a young woman who is about to get married in her home in Greece. She wants her father to give her away but trouble is, she does not know who he is. Her best guess is three men from her mom’s diary. So, she mails three wedding invitations pretending they are from her mom. Trouble ensues when all three come to Greece but Sophie’s mother, Donna, does not know that they were invited by her daughter.

I am not a big fan of Meryl Streep and was rather disappointed when she ended up steeling the show. It seems to me that the movie should have been focused on the bride rather than her single mother and her plight with her former flames. It is also very strange that Donna ended up being the one getting married and not her daughter. Sophie could have traveled the world just as well married as not, so it did nothing for the film to have her choose to travel with her fiance instead of getting married.

I was surprised and delighted at how well the songs matched the events of the movie. The film also included all of my favorite ABBA songs and some others that I did not know but enjoyed nonetheless. Mamma Mia! was nicely lighthearted and not too serious. In fact, I felt like dancing in the aisles but was prevented from doing so by the middle-aged women on my right and the elderly couple on my left.

The Greek scenery was absolutely stunning and the singing was also good but it seems that Pierce Brosnan was pushing his voice too far, which is to say his singing was very unpleasant and made me cringe. Overall however, the film was delightful and a nice choice for a girls’ night in kind of event
